I don’t know about you guys, but I am a creature of habit, especially when it comes to food. When my husband isn’t home and I don’t have to cook, I can make one meal and eat it every day for a week, for multiple meals a day even. I love food, but most of the time I’m just too lazy to actually make a legitimate meal. Especially for breakfast or lunch. In the morning I’m usually too scatter brained to get out the pots and pans, and usually for lunch I’ve just finished a workout and I am far too tired to spend time preparing anything. Sometimes even using a microwave is too daunting of a task, amiright? (and who needs extra radiation, anyway?) This is where my powerhouse smoothie comes in to play! It is filled with antioxidant rich blueberries, sweet strawberries, protein packed greek yogurt, and low fat almond milk
I’ve been following the If It Fits Your Macro “diet” for a few months now. If you don’t know what this is, it’s where you consume a specific amount of macronutrients (carbs, proteins, and fats) based off of you BMR, activity levels, and goals. You can read more about IIFYM here. This smoothie recipe is a great one for IIFYM! (although almost anything and everything is!) However, if you are on a cut, this will take up a decent chunk of your carbohydrates for the day, so I’m giving you a fair warning. This smoothie is a great source of energy before a workout and it’s also a great post workout snack/meal as well to help feed your muscles! I have had this smoothie at least 4 times a week for the last few months and I don’t see myself tiring of it any time soon.
P.S.- You WILL need a food scale to measure ingredients!
Blueberry Protein Smoothie:
100 grams of frozen blueberries
100 grams of frozen strawberries
100 grams of frozen mango chunks
1.5 cups of almond milk (I use Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla)
227 grams of Chobani Fat Free Greek Yogurt
(Honey for added sweetness if you like)
Once you’ve measured out all of your ingredients blend well in a blender. I usually blend mine for about 5 minutes to ensure that all fruit is well blended and smooth to my liking.
Carbohydrates: 49 grams
Protein: 26 grams
Fat: 4 grams
